    Intelligence for Dummies is a short book that describes and analysis various topics about intelligence in general. It may be said that the book serves as an introduction to the basics of intelligence. The basics may include; the actual definition of intelligence and how this is specifically measured, how the intelligence of an individual is affected by nature (genetics) versus nurture (environment) and how these factors will affect the forming of ones intelligence potential. The interaction between intelligence and the natural world; how humans use their understanding of intelligence to benefit in unique situations; the impact of scientific and technological advances on the nurture of intelligence, in other words the modern implications of intelligence, will also be discussed.

    About the Author
    Jan Wouters is a student at the International School Hilversum, the Netherlands. This short book is the outcome of an extremely important project, which is mandatory for each student; this project is referred to as the Personal Project. This project is an experience, which involves developing and researching a subject, which interests the student; it is the culmination of all the skills and knowledge I have acquired and developed throughout my school life until now.

    Jan decided to focus his project on the basics of intelligence; the controversial definitions of intelligence and how intelligence is specifically measured (IQ), and if this method can even be trusted; how intelligence is affected by nature (genetics) versus nurture (environment) and how these factors will affect the forming of ones intelligence potential.

    As part of his research he has gained access to reliable sources for data collection, which he has done by reading various articles by psychologists who are experts in the field of intelligence, and even interviewing some of these experts, and at the same time analysed this data so he could alter it to a standard at which it is understandable at a high school student level.

Introduction
Man is a species that has dominated the world. He has flown to the moon, cured the incurable diseases, climbed the highest mountains, built the greatest buildings and crossed the widest oceans. He has defeated the greatest beasts: the blue whale, the African elephant, the brown bear, the saltwater crocodile, the whale shark, and many more. But the universal question remains to be discussed on an understandable level: what makes him different from other species? What allows his species to thrive? Man is not the strongest or largest species, he does not have any claws or large teeth to protect him, yet he does not cease to exist. Although man does not have any offensive or defensive physical characteristics, he has what no other species has: the greatest brain. Man can use his brain to accomplish anything he desires, so to speak. What makes him different to other species is the ability to think logically, and to reason rationally, to acquire knowledge, and to use this knowledge to adapt to unique situations. Man has evolved into a species that can accomplish great things, using just his intellectual mind.

Conclusion
Intelligence is a topic that a great amount of knowledge has been acquired about in recent years but still has many questions unanswered. This makes the reliability of information questionable, as there has not been any research conducted or even made possible on certain topics. Such topics range from what factors intelligence exists of, specifically environment, to the definition of intelligence itself. Even though nearly all of the information in this booklet has been acquired from reliable psychologists from all around the world, some of the information is assumptions made by known psychologists themselves, and analysed by myself, based on known facts and rational, logical thinking. ×
