The New Two

retrieving love and the courage to relate

Margaret J. Valk • Boek • paperback

  • Samenvatting
There you are - with your mortgage, kids, demanding job, Saturday morning sex routine - when one day you wake up and feel your relationship is way past its expiry date. The first thing you do is to repress with all your might. Still your mind is spinning in top gear, turning you crazy with lurid visions of your children doing drugs all because of you, the people that used to hate you laughing, and the ones that love you crying. You feel like taking all the sleeping pills, instead of one, but manage not to. When you wake up the next morning – again even more broken than the day before – you finally tell your partner in a tormented voice: “We need to talk”, and all hell breaks loose.

The New Two is a book about another way of relating, written for people who are secretly up for a change and who are not afraid of a little reflection and adventure. Unfortunately, I cannot hand you a seven minute cure on relationships; it will be hard work at times. The good news is that life will support you in every possible way, the minute you start taking your own happiness seriously. When you have truly become a New One, you can enter a relationship and form a New Two: two fearless people who feel at peace and can enjoy life on their own, but still have the will and courage to relate as well.

Margaret J. Valk, (Amsterdam 1963) has studied dance, creative writing and literature. In 2004 the simple question: “What is it that you want?” triggered a series of events that drastically changed her life for the better. She is a mother of three sons and works as an English teacher at a school for vocational education in The Netherlands.

“The New Two is a book that’s a lot like having a conversation with a good friend, who talks you through her own experiences and shares the wisdom and insight she has gained along the way. She will tell you of her own journey and quest to become a new person – the New One – in order to be better able to relate to others and to form a fearless new relationship with another – the New Two. She will challenge you to rethink your beliefs and behaviours and to be brave enough to start living the life you were always meant to live.”
    Lisa Brennan

“In a confrontational style, Margaret gives us an honest review of her fascinating journey on how to love and relate without fear.”
    Rudolph Grabijn
