  Healthcare is under increasing pressure due to an ageing population and staff shortages. Nurses can play a key role in delivering appropriate care. One way to achieve this is by fostering a learning culture in which quality improvement based on evidence-based practice (EBP) is central. This thesis shows that nurses need more time, resources, and accessible knowledge in order to effectively apply EBP. To support them in this endeavour, nursing interventions aimed at reducing pain have been mapped out, and the high and low value care list has been updated with recommendations for effective and ineffective care practices. In addition, a learning culture has been developed within several nursing teams, with the support of coaches, to facilitate quality improvements based on EBP. Leadership, supervision, and a safe working environment are crucial in this process. Moreover, involving patients through clear information and a personalised approach also plays a significant role. These insights can help support nurses in providing more future-proof care.
