  RAIL FASTENINGS describes in a near to scientific manner the development of railways in a large part of the world, on which trains and trams are running. After a general observation of track in main lines an excursion is made to look at the dozens of rail sections and supports for them, introduced over many years. These surveys are looked at chronologically in the sequence of their first appearance. Then the rail fastenings are looked at in some detail, being the numerous components and methods to connect the rails with their supports. The goal always is to construct a reliable railway, although from the beginning the requirements were ever more challenging. The increase of these requirements is examined as well.
  The book counts 348 pages and is richly illustrated with 1580 images from hundreds of varied historical sources and photos from recent decades.
