FOREWORD
First published in 1941, The Secret Door to Success stands as one of Florence Scovel Shinn’s most luminous works—a guide to discovering the hidden path to fulfillment, faith, and divine alignment. In these pages, Shinn reveals that success is not gained through struggle or chance, but through spiritual understanding and right thinking.
This edition has been lovingly prepared to honor the clarity and grace of her original message while presenting it freshly to today’s readers. Her words remind us that every challenge conceals an open door, and every seeming delay is part of a greater design. Through faith, affirmation, and inspired action, we learn to walk confidently through that door—into a life shaped by purpose and higher guidance.
Whether this is your first encounter with Florence Scovel Shinn or a return to her timeless wisdom, may this book serve as a companion on your own journey toward success, peace, and spiritual awakening.
With gratitude and respect,
John Rietveld

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: FLORENCE SCOVEL SHINN (1871–1940)
Florence Scovel Shinn was an American artist, illustrator, teacher, and spiritual writer. After a successful career as an illustrator in the early 20th century, she began giving lectures and consultations on metaphysics—a spiritual philosophy centered on the creative power of words, thoughts, and intuition.
She became best known for her 1925 book The Game of Life and How to Play It. In this work, she blends Biblical wisdom, universal laws, and practical affirmations into an accessible and direct guide for anyone seeking to shape their life consciously. Shinn’s style is loving, clear, and free of unnecessary mysticism—qualities that make her work both timeless and effective.
Although she stood outside the established religious frameworks of her day, her influence grew steadily. To this day, she is regarded as a pioneer in the field of spiritual self-help and “law of attraction” thinking—long before those terms became widely known.
