  People often wonder: ‘How do you actually do it, building all those schools?’ At which point we usually become silent. Building in Mali, or even in any another culture, requires more than just opening a simple box of tricks. This question shows that to outsiders it seems our activities are limited to just building schools and wells. Actually that is the most visible part, that’s how the activities of SDO started out in 1995.

  
  This book will show everyone what kept us bussy for the past 15 years. Essentially it can be described as realizing regional development by education, learning and collaborating. The start for all this activities was our interest and presence in the Dogon area since 1972. Since building the first school and well in 1995 much has been realized by the foundation, much more than just building projects.
